Vicky, from our Lewes branch, spoke with a gentleman who was searching for a white gold diamond set palm tree pendant for his wife, who had spotted one on a recent cruise they had been on to celebrate their ruby wedding anniversary. Not wanting to buy on impulse, they didn’t purchase the pendant, and later regretted the decision. The customer had searched for many months, even contacting their cruise company but had no success.
November is finally here and although Christmas is just around the corner, it is important to not forget those special occasions in the upcoming weeks before Christmas.
If you are struggling to find the perfect gift for birthdays in November, then we are here to help. The traditional birthstone for November is Topaz, and the modern birthstone is Citrine. Blue topaz is also an option as the 4th wedding anniversary gift.
The multicoloured gemstone Opal represents the month of October.
Opals exhibit a shifting play of kaleidoscopic colour unlike any other gemstone. The wide range of colours displayed led the Romans to believe it to be the most precious stone which held the highest powers. It was also believed to fall from the sky during thunderstorms and contained lightning. The ancient Greeks thought Opals gave them the gift of prophesy and protected them from disease and illness.
Sapphire is an extremely popular gemstone and has been treasured for thousands of years. They are the birthstone of September and they represent the 5th and 45th wedding anniversary.
They are traditionally blue, from pale to deep dark hues. The preferred sapphire is a strong to vivid blue colour with even saturation.
Sapphires are a member of the corundum mineral family. They can be found in all colours of the rainbow. All red corundum gemstones are referred to as ruby, all other colours of corundum are referred to as sapphire.
Whilst I have been working at W.E. Clark & Son for over 20 years, you never stop learning. When I first started in the jewellery trade, I worked to gain both my Professional Jewellers Diploma and my Professional Jewellers Gemmological Diploma. My studies have continued on ever since, with the successful completion of a higher certificate in Practical Gemmology with the GEM-A (Gemmological Association of Great Britain).
The birthstones representing the month of August are Peridot, Spinel and Sardonyx. This blog will provide you with an overview of each gemstone and showcase a few of our favourite jewellery pieces featuring each gem.
As restrictions have been lifted, more of us are able to attend weddings to support couples celebrating their love.
We have a suggested style guide for the perfect finishing touches for members of the wedding party plus inspiring gift ideas to gift the bride and groom.
It’s all about the finer details when it comes to accessories for the men.
Ruby
Rubies together with amethyst, sapphire, emerald, and diamond are known as traditional cardinal gems as they are considered the most precious above all others and are still very popular today.
Pink to deepest red in colour, Ruby is the gemstone that represents the birth month of July. The name ruby comes from the Latin word ruber, which means “red.”
