Dan explains the process of a recent watch bracelet refurbishment he carried out on an Omega Constellation -
This Omega watch came into us with a lot of scratches on the case and strap from general everyday wear.
The watch dial, hands and movement were removed from the case. The case and bracelet were then ultrasonically cleaned. The case and bracelet were then buffed using both the polishing machine and the jewellers pendant hand tool. Followed by another ultrasonic. Then a finishing polish to get everything shiny.
Then the bracelet needed to be masked off - extremely time consuming on a watch like this and done in two stages.
Once masked the brushed finish can be applied using a special wheel on the polishing machine.
The heat-resistant masking tape is then removed before another ultrasonic clean.
Then the new caps were fitted as appropriate and finially the watch can be reassembled.
