April's birthstone is Diamond

The origin of birthstones is believed to date back to Biblical times, specifically to the breastplate of Aaron which contained twelve gemstones.  Historians believed there was a connection between these twelve stones, the twelve months of the year and the twelve signs of the zodiac. Each gem was thought to offer the wearer special powers during the corresponding astrological period.

Now the twelve gemstones are simply known as birthstones, each representing a month of the year. Each stone has a set of unique properties such as its country of origin and healing properties.

The birthstone for April is Diamond. It also symbolises 60th and 75th wedding anniversaries.

Diamond Ring

Diamonds are the hardest material on Earth, they are said to be 58 times harder than anything else in nature. This makes diamonds ideal to be set in any type of jewellery and why diamonds are a safe favourite for everyday wear and chosen for wedding and engagement rings.

As well as being the symbol of eternal love, diamonds are thought to bring strength and courage.

A diamond forms under high temperature and pressure conditions that exist about 100 miles beneath the earth’s surface. Usually diamonds are colourless/tinted yellow, however they can be found in a variety of colours such as pink and blue.
