The Bespoke Jewellery Design Process
Jewellery Design Appointment
Our service starts with a detailed one-to-one consultation with David Clark P J Gem Dip to discuss your ideas. David is the fourth generation in the Clark family to run WE Clark and Son and as such, has a wealth of experience, professional gemmology qualifications and knowledge to draw upon. David will guide you through all aspects of the process providing advice and ideas based generations of experience designing jewellery.
The Design
We will create hand drawn sketches and show you examples of the techniques and methods so that you can clearly visualise your item before we commit to the hand making process. You’ll have plenty of time to consider this stage of the process, and David will be on hand advising and guiding you all of the way through. As well as conventional techniques, we are also using computer aided design software (CAD) which allows you to visualise items before they are manufactured – read about CAD jewellery design.
Hand making your item of jewellery
Our master jeweller, with over 35 years of experience, will hand make your item in our workshop at number 1, Cliffe High Street Lewes. You’ll be invited to visit us at all stages of the process to see how your item is progressing and to allow you to incorporate any changes as the item starts to become a reality.
The Finished Product
Your handmade jewellery is ready for you to collect and wear. Often an emotional moment for all, but certainly very exciting!

Computers help in the design of a very exciting ring
We are using computer aided design software to design this very exciting ring – here are some pictures of what the item will look like…
Sentimental Gold
Recently a customer enquired as to whether a number of her old rings could be melted down and used to make one new ring. The old rings had a lot of sentimental value and rather than simply sell them in favour of something brand new, our customer wished to use them to create something really special. Here is the process we took along with a picture of the final, beautiful item…
